Dell Laptop – Drains battery in Sleep

You may have ONE of these two symptoms:

  • Laptop drains battery in sleep. When you take the laptop out from bag, it is freaking hot
  • OR Pressing Power Button or Start Button to Sleep, Laptop goes back to logon screen or refused to go to sleep.

I got this solution that worked for me. It’s Sleep Settings in the local policy console. Open GPEdit.msc and go to

Local Computer Policy >>> Computer Configuration >>> Administrative Templates >>> System >>> Power Management >>> Sleep Settings.

Configure the settings as in this screenshot.

If your laptop has Intel Management Engine driver installed, disable the “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” in driver settings in Device Manager.

  • Open Device Manager and go to <Computer Name> >>> System Devices >>> Intel Management Engine Interface.
  • Right click on Intel Management Engine Interface, choose Properties, then go to “Power Management”.
  • Disable the “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” setting

Lastly, disable the “Connected Standby Mode” by changing this Registry Key.

  1. Run Registry Editor (regedit)
  2. Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power
  3. Change the value for CsEnabled from 1 to 0

Don’t forget to Reboot your computer to take effect these settings.

After reboot, try going to sleep (not you, the laptop).
